Kiote (Japonija) vykusioje Jungtinių Tautų konferencijoje, kuriuo įsipareigojama per penkerius metus (2008–2012 m.) 5 % sumažinti į atmosferą išmetamų šiltnamio efektą sukeliančių dujų (anglies dioksido, metano, anglies suboksido) kiekį palyginti su 1990 m. kiekiu (įsigaliojo 2005 m.). Veiksmingiausi būdai: švaresnių technologijų kūrimas ir diegimas, energijos vartojimo efektyvumo didinimas, atsinaujinančių energijos išteklių naudojimas. Lietuva ratifikavo 2002 m.
